The detached one wins

My friend just said (after hearing me out - see two post below)that you have to regularly beat a guy's ass, then he's sweet and devoted to you. Once you show you care he will feel overwhelmed by this and will look for the nearest exist. I would just say that you need to be detached: not organize your life around your boyfriend's life. Your partner is just the cherry on your cake, not the cake itself.
