Mondays—or any time you have to return to a regular routine after time away—get a lot of people down. Start the day by drinking a glass of cool water. Bend down and touch your toes, then reach for the sky and stretch. Take several deep breaths. Get some sunlight if you can. You have at least one good reason to be glad today: you’re alive! Repeat the following: “I’m thankful for today, for who I am and what I have in my life.” Keep repeating, “I’m thankful for today,” like a mantra. Words are powerful. Life is precious. Remember that today is the first day of the rest of your life. Make it a good one. And just so you don’t forget, do something memorable today; wear a special ring, write yourself a note, or draw a smiley face on your hand, anything that will remind you. Make Mondays a regular day for a ritual of gratitude.
